Looking On The Bright Side

I love this time of the year. Crisp mornings, cool evenings and, because I live in the desert, late summer blooms. Now that Fall is officially here, I can start breaking out my soup recipes and piling up the firewood. It all makes me very happy. Which is a good thing, under the circumstances.

I’m not gonna lie, the last two weeks have been rough. If cancer sucks, radiation therapy is worse. That’s just my opinion, of course, but nobody should have to go through this. I won’t go into details, nor will I bore you with the darker moments of recovery. Let’s just let it suffice to say that it has been a special kind of hell I wouldn’t wish on anybody.

I think, instead, I’ll concentrate on my blessings. Not all of them, as that would take all day, but the moments that are getting me through this trial, right now. The highlights. Like the first day of Fall.

A real honest-to-gods flower from my real honest-to-gods garden.

Or my grandnephew’s first birthday.

My namesake is one year old. My how time flies…

Or the fact that the Borderlands Film Festival, of which I am a founding member, kicks off one week from today. Got your tickets yet?

I think that just about says it all.

Or the premieres of my new movie, Lady Belladonna’s Tales From The Inferno, which will take place here in Las Cruces on October 5th and in Phoenix on October 16th. Tickets are on sale for those events, as well.

Yeah, these are the moments I live for. They take me out of the dark place and remind me why I bother. Today is my first official day back at work and I’ve got a lot to do. I’m glad to be back. Only half days for a while, but I’d rather be here than where I was two weeks ago.

Monty Python was right, you know…
